12 Days of Christmas: The Lemon Drop Kid

Image
It's the final installment of our 12 Days of Christmas for 2022! Will McKinley joins us to discuss 1951's The Lemon Drop Kid , featuring Bob Hope as a down-and-out swindler who has until Christmas Eve to pay back money he owes a gangster. We hope you have enjoyed this year's batch of holiday-themed episodes, and that you have a happy new year!

12 Days of Christmas: The Polar Express

Image
A loud train, with an uncanny valley Tom Hanks as the conductor, rolls up in the middle of the night, a young boy boards it, and we're off to the North Pole. That's the kick-off for The Polar Express , and Matt & Benny discuss it in our 600th episodes!

12 Days of Christmas: Funny Farm

Image
The first 80 minutes of this 100 minute movie have nothing to do with Christmas. The last 20 minutes? It's positively awash with holiday gubbins. Chevy Chase and Madolyn Smith Osborne play a married couple who leave big city life behind and move to picturesque rural Vermont. From there, a series of misadventures befalls them, culminating in a Norman Rockwell-like Christmastime setting. Ashley & Matt talk about Funny Farm in today's 12 Days of Christmas episode. It's a movie we're very fond of!

12 Days of Christmas: Violent Night

Image
A wealthy family is taken hostage on Christmas Eve, and only one person can save them -- the real Santa Claus. Larry joins Matt & Ashley to talk about the new movie Violent Night , currently in theaters, as our 12 Days of Christmas soldiers on.

12 Days of Christmas: Falling for Christmas

Image
What's up next on our 12 Days of Christmas series? Another Netflix movie (womp womp). Seriously, though, it's a cute story (that borrows a bit from Overboard ). It's nice to see Lindsay Lohan in a starring role, and if you're wanting a romantic holiday film, this will suffice. Garret & Kirsten join Matt & Ashley to talk about Falling for Christmas in our latest episode. (special guest appearance by Lorelai)

12 Days of Christmas: Silent Night, Deadly Night

Things take a dark turn on our  12 Days of Christmas  journey, as Ashley, Matt and Grant discuss the controversial 1984 horror movie  Silent Night, Deadly Night .

12 Days of Christmas: The Noel Diary

Image
Justin Hartley is a best-selling novelist, and Barrett Doss is a woman looking for her birth mother. The two of them meet cute around the holidays, and the story goes from there. Ashley & Matt talk about the new Netflix movie, The Noel Diary , in our latest 12 Days of Christmas episode.

12 Days of Christmas: Spirited

Image
Will Ferrell is the Ghost of Christmas Present, and Ryan Reynolds is a supposedly irredeemable person who Present tries his best to redeem. Does he succeed? Are the songs any good? Rachel joins us to talk about this and more on our latest 12 Days of Christmas episode. It's a Spirited discussion!

12 Days of Christmas: The Ref

Image
12 Days of Christmas jingles along here at Mashley at the Movies , as Aaron joins us to talk about the 1994 holiday crime comedy, The Ref .

12 Days of Christmas: Klaus

Image
Jesper is a spoiled young man whose father sends him to Smeerensburg, a village near the Arctic Circle. There he is to be the postman for a year. He ends up dealing with a hodge podge of locals, and meets an old, reclusive toymaker with a bushy white beard... We talk about Klaus today with Rosa, as our 12 Days of Christmas continues.

12 Days of Christmas: Christmas with the Campbells

Image
Brittany Snow plays a woman dumped by her boyfriend, but is invited to spend Christmas with his mom and dad. She agrees, and ends up meeting Justin Long. So, yeah, a meet cute, a wishing tree, a cute little village during the holidays, romance, oh... and vulgarity. A fair bit of vulgarity. Ashley & Matt talk about this new Christmas movie, on the latest installment of our 12 Days of Christmas series.

12 Days of Christmas: The Shop Around the Corner

Image
We're kicking-off our annual  12 Days of Christmas  series with a 1940 classic! Ryan joins us to talk about  The Shop Around the Corner , where Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan play co-workers at a gift shop during the holidays. They can't stand each other, but are falling in love via anonymously written correspondence. Sound familiar? Why yes, this is based on the same source material as 1998's  You've Got Mail .

Bad Movie Night # 8 (Christmas Special)

Image
We're in the thick of the holidays, and 'tis the season to talk about some awful films! Matt & Ashley are joined by Aaron as they watch and then discuss a really bad Christmas movie. It all goes down in our latest edition of Bad Movie Night (and maybe a visit by Santa!).

Criterion: Holiday

Image
We've got a lot to say about the 1938 classic  Holiday  in our latest episode! Will joins us again (becoming an annual December tradition), and we talk about the Depression-era dramedy about mismatched lovers, what we want out of life, and the importance placed on money. It's a long discussion, so settle in and give our latest Criterion episode a listen!

Bones and All, The Fabelmans, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, The Menu

It's a cornucopia of new movies this week! Our latest episodes run the gamut, from a budding young filmmaker in the 1950s, to a bunch of cannibals in the 1980s. Ashley & Matt have fun talking about these four films. Take a listen!
